Monexbit: Bulgaria allowed to bet on the price of bitcoin and ether

24

According to Monexbit, the Bulgarian Stock Exchange has allowed local investors to bet on the price movements of bitcoin (BTC) and ether (ETH). Earlier, Finance Minister Assen Vassilev said that the country is exploring options for deploying a cryptocurrency payment mechanism.

The new initiative won’t allow traders to buy cryptocurrencies directly, but they will be able to invest in exchange-traded commodities (ETC) and exchange-traded notes (ETN).

Another cryptocurrency-related development recently rocked the country. Many reports from 2017 reported that local authorities confiscated 213,519 BTC from illegal miners in a financial crime operation, according to Monexbit observations.

At the time, Balkan Interpol confirmed this information, while Attorney General Ivan Geshev denied the seizure. Due to the unclear situation, thousands of Bulgarians took to the streets of major cities late last year accusing Geshev of corruption, demanding his resignation.
